Peace Ambassadors (gr. 6-8)
In the middle school years, Yoga poses become more that just a physical exploration of movement; they become an opportunity to look inward and bring mind and body into unison. Peace Ambassadors balances the fun and joy of movement and games with a more introspective experience of Yoga. Classes incorporate discussion and activities to encourage community building and the development of a positive sense of self. Concepts are explored at a deeper level, helping pre-teens and young teens learn what it means to be responsible citizens in a global community.
Each 8-week session focuses on thematic ideas to help middle schoolers broaden their understanding of the universal principles of yoga such as peace/non-violence, contentedness, self-reflection and discipline. As middle schoolers reinforce their learning through discussion and experience in and out of yoga class, they will earn unique collector's pins to affix to their ChildLight Yoga mat bag (included in the one-time registration fee), backpack or jacket. The fashionable pins will help remind them of what they've learned and will serve as a fun conversation starter with friends.
To help children develop a better understanding of yoga "off the mat," classes may also work toward an end of the year service project (at teacher’s discretion). "ChildLight Yoga in Action" is designed to help children understand their connection to their community and to support them as they recognize and offer their gifts in service to others.
All of our sessions are appropriate for children who are new to Yoga, as well as for those who are continuing their instruction.
