Applicants must submit 30 teaching hours in children’s yoga which must be performed after completing a program with a RCYS (Registered Children’s Yoga School)." Is it necessary to complete 95 hours of training and be an RCYT to teach yoga to children?
No!  This is a question we are asked ALL the time. Certainly, having the Yoga Alliance RCYT designation denotes that you are extremely qualified to teach yoga to children. However, requirements for teaching yoga to children reside with the employer or class host location. Most of the time, it is not necessary to be a registered yoga teacher with an additional 95 hours of training to teach yoga to children safely and effectively.

I haven't taken a 200 hour yoga teacher training. Do I need to complete that before I begin the ChildLight Yoga 95 hr program?
Many participants start out teaching yoga to children and are then inspired to deepen their study of yoga by attending a 200 hr training.  You do, however, need to be a RYT in order to apply for the RCYT designation through the Yoga Alliance. Which you complete first is up to you.

What else do I need to know about registering as a RCYT?
Yoga Alliance requires you to be a current RYT and teach 30 hours of children's yoga classes AFTER completing the 95 hour program and BEFORE applying for the designation.

Should you decide to complete the 95 hour program you have three years to do so.  It is not required to have a 200 hour training in order to teach yoga to children or to complete a 95 hour program.  However, the Yoga Alliance requires everyone to have a 200 hour training in order to become a member of their organization.  This is optional.

There are three options:

- A 200 hour training to teach adults (RYT)+ 95 hour program to teach children (RCYT)
- A 200 hour training to teach adults only (RYT)
- A 95 hour program to teach children only (CYT, unable to register through Yoga Alliance, however an expert children's yoga teacher through us, a Registered Children's Yoga School that is recognized by the Yoga Alliance)

My chosen program equals more than 95 hours, why?
ChildLight Yoga has been offering quality teacher trainings for children's yoga programming for over ten years.  We will continue to maintain our high standards, which may result in giving you even more training than is required by the Yoga Alliance Organization.

How do I get started?
Submit your application here!  You are in no way obligated to complete the program.

This is confusing!

-Begin to teach 30 hours of yoga for children dated AFTER your 95 hour program completion date to receive the RCYT designation     through the Yoga Alliance organization.

Participant feedback:

"I gained so much understanding of teaching yoga for children, tweens and teens in ChildLight Yoga’s 95 hour Children’s Yoga Teacher Training Program. Every instructor was so gifted with experience, knowledge and the ability to engage every participant-at any age-in the wonders of children’s yoga. I absolutely loved the variety of the curriculum so that we can focus on the needs of children and teens in today’s society. I am so pleased with the expanding curriculum ChildLight  Yoga is offering. From trauma-informed and mindfulness yoga for children & teens, teen yoga, yoga for special needs children and the newly offered Yoga for Youth Athletes, ChildLight Yoga recognizes the diverse population that we, as yoga teachers, need to reach out to. Each instructor has a specialty in the field, too, so their experiences are so very valuable to all of us who are participants in the program. I am proud that ChildLight Yoga is where I chose to do my RCYT training and I look forward to continuing my children’s yoga training with them." ~ K.S.

"I just took the Special Needs training this weekend and it was fantastic. It's the last course to complete my 95 hours, but I decided I would like to come back to Dover for Babies and Toddlers and the Athletes trainings, as well as take the three part prenatal training in the Spring . Your team has made this journey incredible and I can only hope to be a part of a group and mission so meaningful as I continue to walk this journey." ~ J.C.

"It'll be two years this January since making the best decision for myself and my family...I didn't even know teaching children yoga was an official thing that I could do! I used to unofficially teach the kids in my classroom regulated breathing and yoga poses , but teaching Kids Yoga is more up my alley than teaching academics! This training also got me back into practicing adult yoga after a 3 year hiatus from practicing. It also opened the doors for me to take an adult Yoga Teacher training program and now teach adult yoga classes. Thanks Lisa Flynn for founding ChildLight Yoga and the teacher training program and to all the amazing instructors that have guided me in teaching yoga to our youth!"  ~ L.Y.

"Just attended my first ChildLight Yoga training. It exceeded my expectations & made me even more excited and confident about the path that I am on. I traveled from SC and it was completely worth it!
